Amy Wilson, training coordinator for the Colorado Secretary of State’s office, will host a webinar today at noon Central on pollworker training, focusing on how adults learn and what it means for election officials who rely upon them for assistance before, during and after Election Day. Here’s the description:
Do you find yourself saying, “But I went over that in training! Why don’t they remember?” This interactive webinar will offer tips and tricks on how to improve your training so your pollworkers listen, remember, and retain the information you present. We will discuss how to make your trainings interesting, interactive, and memorable using learning strategies that work. We will discuss what adults need in the classroom in order to be successful at their jobs. Best of all, these strategies will not increase your training budget!
Amy is a longtime election official from Utah and Colorado with years of experience in the field:
Amy Wilson is currently the Training Coordinator for the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office. She has written more than two dozen online elections courses and classroom trainings for the Colorado Election Official Certification Program, one of the most comprehensive and innovative training programs in the country. Amy has worked in the field of elections for more than 20 years, including Election Director for the State of Utah where she oversaw HAVA implementation and was a leader in the National Association of State Election Directors. She also worked as the Elections Manager in Arapahoe County Colorado for several years where she helped the county transition from polling place voting to mail ballot voting. Amy received her BA in Political Science and Russian from the University of Utah. She also holds a Masters of Applied Communication from the University of Denver.
No matter how much the elections field has changed and is changing, the role of learning and training is still incredibly important … and we are fortunate at the Certificate of Election Administration program that Amy is one of our instructors and bringing her own (considerable!) experience to the next generation of election officials nationwide. You can register for today’s session here; we hope to see you there … and stay tuned!
