I’m always excited about the New Year, but I’m especially looking forward to 2017 because it means my friend and colleague Tammy Patrick will be adding her name to the list of individuals offering online grad-level courses as part of the University of Minnesota’s Certificate in Election Administration program!

While there is disagreement about the presidential recount underway in Michigan – first in the court of public opinion and now the courts – many eyes are now turning to a state law that prohibits a precinct from being recounted if it cannot be reconciled; that is, the total number of ballots cast don’t match the number of names in the poll book.

Yesterday, the Census Bureau released its latest minority language determinations under Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act. These determinations set the list of jurisdictions for which voting materials must be made available in languages other than English.
